Xhafer Deva

Xhafer Deva (February 21, 1904 Mitrovica, Kosovo-May 25, 1978 San Francisco) was an Albanian politician, merchant and entrepreneur.

He was one of the signers of the Albanian Declaration of Independence in 1912, and served as a member of the Albanian parliament from 1921 to 1924. Deva later went on to become one of the founders of the Albanian National Bank and served as its president from 1943 to 1944.

During his career, Deva was also involved in various entrepreneurial ventures, including the establishment of the Deva business group, which operated in Albania, Yugoslavia and Italy. Additionally, he was known for his philanthropic work, and founded the Xhafer Deva Foundation in Kosovo to promote education and cultural activities.

After the end of World War II, Deva left Albania due to his opposition to the communist government that had taken power. He lived in various countries before settling in the United States in the 1950s, where he continued to be active in Albanian-American organizations and politics until his death in 1978.

While living in the United States, Xhafer Deva was also a professor of economics at the University of San Francisco.
