He is best known as the host of NPR's classical music program Performance Today. Child studied classical music at the Eastman School of Music and bassoon performance at the Tanglewood Music Center. Before joining NPR, he worked at classical music radio stations across the United States, including WFMT in Chicago and KUSC in Los Angeles.
