Arthur Edmund Carewe

Arthur Edmund Carewe (December 30, 1884 Trabzon-April 22, 1937 Santa Monica) a.k.a. Hovsep Hovsepian, Arthur Carew, Arthur E. Carew, Arthur Carewe, Arthur Edmund Carew or Arthur Edmond Carew was an Armenian actor.

Carewe was born in Trabzon, Ottoman Empire (modern day Turkey) to Armenian parents. He immigrated to the United States in 1901 and began his acting career on stage. He appeared in numerous Broadway productions between 1912 and 1929 before transitioning to the film industry. Carewe starred in some of the silent era's most popular films, including "The Phantom of the Opera" (1925) and "The Cat and the Canary" (1927). He continued to act in sound films throughout the 1930s. In addition to his acting career, Carewe was also a writer and director. He passed away in Santa Monica, California at the age of 52.
