Hardy was a popular figure on Australian television in the 1960s and 1970s, hosting a range of programs, including the chat show "Mary Hardy Looks at Life" and the variety show "Mary Hardy's House Party".

Hardy was also an accomplished actor, performing in theatre productions and feature films. She appeared in several Australian films, including "The Timeless Land", "Mystery Island" and "The Siege of Pinchgut".
