Tala Birell was born to a family of Austrian-Hungarian nobility in Bucharest, Romania. She began her acting career on stage in Vienna before making her way to Hollywood. In 1933, she signed a contract with Paramount Pictures and starred in several films, including "The Song of Songs" (1933), "It Happened in Paris" (1935) and "The Lone Wolf Spy Hunt" (1939).

Birell was known for her exotic beauty and her ability to speak several languages fluently, which made her in high demand for international film productions. She was also trained in classical ballet and often showcased her talents in her film roles.
