He began his career as a comedian in the 1980s, performing at various cabaret theaters in Austria. In 1988, he co-founded the cabaret ensemble "Schlabarett" and became known for his satirical and critical portrayals of Austrian society and politics. Dorfer rose to national prominence in the 1990s as a regular on the ORF television program "Das kann ja heiter werden".
