Martyn began his music career in the 1960s, initially as a solo artist before forming a band called the John Martyn Group. In addition to his successful solo career, Martyn collaborated with numerous other musicians throughout his life, including Phil Collins and Eric Clapton. He received several awards throughout his career, including a Lifetime Achievement Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in 2008. Martyn continued to perform and record music until his death in 2009.
