He was a prominent member of the literary generation of the 1880s in Chile and is considered one of the country's most important writers of the naturalist movement. Rodríguez's literary career began with his publication of a collection of short stories, titled "Cuentos del hogar" (Tales of Home), which quickly gained popularity for its realistic portrayal of Chilean society. He went on to publish several other works of fiction, including the novel "La vida en el campo" (Life in the Countryside), which drew on his experiences growing up in rural Chile. In addition to his work as a writer, Rodríguez was also a journalist and an influential critic.
