He is also known for his efforts to centralize the Colombian government and modernize the country's infrastructure during his presidency. However, his authoritarian rule and clashes with political opponents ultimately led to his downfall and exile in Europe. Reyes died in Paris, France, in 1921.

Alejandro Obregón was one of the most important representatives of the Colombian artistic movement known as "La Ruptura" or "The Breakaway". He dedicated his artistic career to depicting the natural beauty and cultural richness of his homeland, often employing bold, abstracted forms and vivid colors in his works.

Obregón's art reflects his deep understanding of Colombia's diverse landscape and cultural heritage, as well as his fascination with the country's complex history and social dynamics.
