Ernesto Lecuona

Ernesto Lecuona (August 6, 1895 Guanabacoa-November 29, 1963 Santa Cruz de Tenerife) a.k.a. Ernesto Lecuona y Casado, Ernesto Lecvona or Ernesto Sixto de la Asunción Lecuona y Casado was a Cuban composer, pianist, film score composer and actor.

Ernesto Lecuona was born into a musical family, with his father being a well-known pianist and his mother a music teacher. He began playing piano at a very young age and by the time he was a teenager, he was already composing his own music. In 1916, he traveled to New York to perform in a concert and ended up staying for several years, performing and composing music for Broadway shows.

Over the course of his career, Lecuona composed over 400 works, including popular songs, classical music, and film scores. He is perhaps best known for his songs "Malagueña" and "Siboney," which have been covered by countless artists and used in numerous films and TV shows.

In addition to his music career, Lecuona had a flourishing acting career, appearing in several films throughout the 1930s and 1940s. He also founded a music publishing company and established a successful music school in Havana.

Despite his success, Lecuona never forgot his Cuban roots and frequently incorporated traditional Cuban music into his compositions. He passed away in 1963 in the Canary Islands, but his music continues to be celebrated around the world.
