In 1962, he directed his first film titled "Lille spejl" which was a huge success and went on to win an award at the Cannes Film Festival. He continued to direct and produce films, television series, and documentaries for the rest of his career.

Henriksen was a master of telling compelling stories that captivated audiences. He directed over 20 feature films and his movies often dealt with serious topics like class struggle and social injustice.
