He served as the interim Head of State of Ethiopia from 1974 to 1974. Andom was the first person to hold the position following the Ethiopian Revolution, which led to the removal of Emperor Haile Selassie I. Prior to his appointment as Head of State, Andom was the Commander of the Ethiopian Air Force. He played a key role in the Ethiopian Revolution and was considered a close ally of the Derg, the military junta that took control of the country after the revolution. Andom is remembered for his efforts to bring stability to Ethiopia during a turbulent period in the country's history. However, his tenure was short-lived, as he was overthrown and murdered by the Derg in 1974.
