Flavin appeared in over 500 films between 1926 and 1971. He started his acting career in the silent film era and continued to work in Hollywood until his death in 1976. He was a versatile character actor who played a wide variety of roles in films such as "The Lost Weekend" (1945), "The Asphalt Jungle" (1950), and "The Wild One" (1953). Flavin was also a frequent collaborator of director John Ford, appearing in over 20 of his films including "The Grapes of Wrath" (1940) and "The Searchers" (1956).
