He has two children, Oona Aurea Buendia and Eon Drake Buendia.

Ely Buendia is best known as the lead vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter of the legendary Pinoy rock band Eraserheads, which became one of the most influential bands in the Philippines during the 1990s. He formed the band in 1989 with his fellow students at the University of the Philippines Diliman - Buddy Zabala, Raimund Marasigan, and Marcus Adoro.
