She acted in both Finnish and Swedish productions, appearing in numerous films and theatrical productions throughout her career. Kesti was particularly recognized for her powerful performances in dramatic roles, and was considered one of the finest actors of her generation. She received numerous awards for her work, including the Jussi Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1962 for her role in "Queen of the Gypsies" and an honorary award from the Finnish Film Foundation in 1973. In addition to acting, Kesti was also a devoted activist and philanthropist, and was involved in various progressive causes throughout her life.
