Djansug Kakhidze

Djansug Kakhidze (May 26, 1935 Tbilisi-March 8, 2002 Tbilisi) also known as Jansug Kakhidze, Kakhidze, Jansug, Dzhansug Kakhidze, The Georgian Karajan or Slavic Karajan was a Georgian conductor, film score composer, music director and actor. He had one child, Vakhtang Kakhidze.

Kakhidze was renowned for his interpretations of the works of famous composers such as Beethoven, Brahms, and Tchaikovsky. He was the principal conductor of the Tbilisi Symphony Orchestra from 1966 to 1978 and also served as a guest conductor for various orchestras around the world, including the London Symphony Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic.

In addition to his classical performances, Kakhidze also composed film scores for a number of Georgian and Soviet films. He won several awards for his film compositions, including the prestigious State Prize of the USSR in 1971.

Kakhidze was also an accomplished actor and occasionally appeared in films and on stage. One of his most notable roles was in the 1977 film "Pirosmani" where he portrayed the titular character, a Georgian naive artist.
