Yuri Yurovsky

Yuri Yurovsky (May 3, 1894 Tbilisi-December 30, 1959 Riga) a.k.a. Yu. Yurovsky, Georg Jurowsky, Georg Jurowski, Yuy Jurowsky or Georg Jurowksy was a Georgian actor.

He was born into a Jewish family and studied at the Moscow Art Theatre. Yurovsky's career began in the Soviet Union during the early days of the Soviet film industry, where he gained fame for his performances in silent films such as "The Tale of Tsar Saltan" (1918) and "The Cigarette Girl from Mosselprom" (1924). He managed to make a successful transition to sound cinema and continued to act until his death. Besides being an actor, Yurovsky was also a director, screenwriter, and teacher at the State Institute of Cinematography in Moscow. Despite his success, he was arrested during Stalin's purges in 1938 and only released in 1943. After his release, he mainly worked in the Baltic states until his death. His legacy lives on as one of the great actors of early Soviet cinema.
