Sally Hayfron

Sally Hayfron (June 6, 1931 Gold Coast-January 27, 1992 Harare) a.k.a. First lady Sally Hayfron, Sarah Francesca Hayfron, Sally Mugabe, Sarah Francesca Hayfron Mugabe or Sarah Francesca Mugabe was a Ghanaian politician and teacher. She had one child, Michael Nhamodzenyika Mugabe.

Sally Hayfron was best known for being the first wife of the former President of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe. She was an active member of the nationalist movement in Ghana and Zimbabwe and was instrumental in the formation of the National Democratic Party, which later became the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU).

After marrying Mugabe in 1961, she took an active role in supporting her husband's political career and became known as the "First Lady" during his time as Prime Minister and later as President of Zimbabwe. Sally was particularly invested in the education of Zimbabwean women and was appointed as the Minister of Education, Sports and Culture in 1985.

Despite facing health challenges, Sally remained committed to her political and social causes until her death in 1992. Her legacy is remembered fondly by many Zimbabweans, and she remains an important figure in the history of the country's struggle for independence.

She died as a result of renal failure.
