Tarun Kumar was known for his work in Bengali cinema and was a versatile actor who portrayed a wide range of characters on screen. He acted in over 300 films and was also a director and producer.

Born in Kolkata, he started his acting career in 1951 with the film "Sesh Uttar" directed by Bimal Roy. He went on to play significant roles in many films including "Balika Badhu", "Sriman Prithviraj", "Mayamriga", "Teen Bhubaner Pare" and "Megh O Roudra", among others. He also acted in a few Hindi films like "Jab Jab Phool Khile" and "Kati Patang".

Apart from acting, Tarun Kumar was also a skilled singer and performed in many stage shows. He was the founder of the theater group "Nandikar" which is known for its experimental plays.
