Donny George Youkhanna

Donny George Youkhanna (October 23, 1950 Habbaniyah-March 11, 2011 Toronto) also known as Dr. Donny George Youkhanna was an Iraqi personality.

He was an archaeologist, anthropologist, and professor who spent much of his career working to preserve Iraq's cultural heritage. He served as the Director General of the Iraq Museum and was instrumental in the recovery of many looted artifacts after the Iraq War in 2003. Youkhanna also worked to rebuild the museum after it was damaged during the war. In addition to his work in Iraq, he taught at Stony Brook University and was a visiting professor at SUNY Buffalo. Youkhanna's contributions to the preservation of Iraq's cultural heritage earned him numerous awards and recognition from institutions around the world.

He grew up in a Chaldean Catholic family in Baghdad and began his education at the Baghdad Academy of Fine Arts before earning a bachelor's degree in archaeology from the University of Baghdad. He then received his M.A. in ancient Near Eastern studies from the State University of New York, Stony Brook and a Ph.D. in Syro-Anatolian archaeology from the University of Paris. He authored several books and articles on Iraqi archaeology, including "The Illustrated Guide to the Iraq Museum" and "The Top 25 Excavations in Iraq". In addition to his work in Iraq, Youkhanna was involved in archaeological research in Syria and Turkey. At the time of his death, he was a professor of anthropology at the State University of New York, Stony Brook.
