She began her acting career in the Abbey Theatre in Dublin and went on to have a successful career on stage and screen. Some of her notable stage performances include "The Plough and the Stars" by Sean O'Casey and "The Rugged Path" by Padraic Colum. On screen, she appeared in several films including "Odd Man Out" and "The Rising of the Moon". Eileen Crowe was also a founding member of the Radio Eireann Players and appeared in numerous radio plays throughout her career. She was highly respected in the Irish theatre community and was awarded the Freedom of the city of Dublin in 1975.

Greene also made multiple appearances on television shows, including The Twilight Zone, Perry Mason, and The Wild Wild West. In the 1950s, she had a key role in the film The Man from Bitter Ridge and received critical acclaim for her performance in the cult classic film The Colossus of New York. Later in her career, Greene took on smaller roles in films and made guest appearances on TV shows. She was married to actor Kent Smith from 1954 until his death in 1985.
