Louise Bennett-Coverley (September 7, 1919 Kingston-July 26, 2006 Toronto) otherwise known as Louise Simone Bennett-Coverley, Miss Lou, OM, OJ, MBE, Luise Bennett, Dr. Louise Bennett-Coverly, Honourable Louise Bennett-Coverly or Louise Bennett was a Jamaican poet, writer, teacher and actor. Her child is called Fabian Coverley.

Miss Lou is regarded as Jamaica's leading cultural icon and was instrumental in promoting the use of Jamaican Patois, also known as Creole, as a means of expressing national pride and identity. She gained widespread recognition through her poetry performances and was a regular on Jamaican radio and television shows. Bennett-Coverley was also awarded several honors for her contributions to Jamaican culture, including the Order of Merit and Order of Jamaica. In addition to her creative work, she was also a respected educator and served as a visiting professor at several universities in the United States. She passed away in Toronto in 2006, but her legacy continues to inspire new generations of Jamaican artists and writers.
