She was known for her work in both French and British productions, making appearances in over 30 films throughout her career. Tani began her career as a cabaret dancer in Paris before transitioning to acting in the 1950s. She gained international recognition with her role in the 1956 film "Yangtse Incident: The Story of H.M.S. Amethyst." Tani was fluent in multiple languages and often served as a cultural liaison between French and Japanese communities. She was also an accomplished stage performer, appearing in productions of the Royal Shakespeare Company and the West End.
