Adolfas Mekas

Adolfas Mekas (September 30, 1925 Biržai-May 31, 2011 Poughkeepsie) also known as George Binkey was a Lithuanian film director, film editor, actor, screenwriter and teacher. He had two children, Sean Mekas and Mamacat Mekas.

Adolfas Mekas was born in Lithuania and emigrated to the United States in 1949. He studied at Columbia University and went on to become a prominent figure in the independent film scene of the 1960s and 1970s. He co-directed the film "Hallelujah the Hills" with his brother Jonas Mekas, which is now considered a classic of American independent cinema. Mekas also worked as an editor on several notable films, including Stanley Kubrick's "The Killing" and John Cassavetes' "Shadows". In addition to his film work, Mekas taught at Bard College and was a prolific writer on film and art. He was a recipient of the Lithuanian National Prize for Culture and Arts in 2007.
