Bellamy was a versatile actor and appeared in a variety of roles in numerous British films in the 1930s and 1940s. He was also a regular actor in West End theatre productions from the 1920s to the 1950s, including roles in popular plays such as "The Importance of Being Earnest" and "Arms and the Man". Bellamy was known for his distinctive voice and dapper style onscreen. He was also a skilled magician and often incorporated his magic tricks into his theatre performances.
