He began his acting career in MediaCorp, a Singaporean broadcasting company, in the 1980s and quickly rose to fame in both Singapore and Malaysia. He was known for his roles in popular TV dramas such as "The Awakening," "Portrait of Home," and "The Unbeatables."

In addition to his successful acting career, Huang Wenyong was also a respected teacher of drama and acting. He taught at several institutions, including the National University of Singapore, the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, and the Singapore Television and Film Training School.
