El Hedi ben Salem (April 4, 2015 Morocco-April 4, 1976 Nîmes) a.k.a. El Hedi ben Salem m’Barek Mohammed Mustafa, Salem El Hedi, Salem El Heïdi, El Hedi Ben Salem, Elhedi Ben Salem or El Hedi ben Salem m' Barek Mohammed Mustafa was a Moroccan actor. He had two children, Abd El-Kader ben Salem and Hamdan ben Salem.

He died caused by cardiac arrest.

El Hedi ben Salem is best known for his role as Ali in the film "Fear Eats the Soul" directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder. He was discovered by Fassbinder while the director was on vacation in Morocco and was cast in several of Fassbinder's films including "The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant" and "Fox and His Friends". Salem struggled with alcoholism and depression throughout his life and his career was cut short when he took his own life at the age of 40 in a French jail while serving time for assaulting his landlord. Despite his brief career, his performances were praised for their authenticity and emotional depth.
