Innocencio of Mary Immaculate

Innocencio of Mary Immaculate (March 10, 1887 Spain-October 9, 1934) was a Spanish personality.

He was a Roman Catholic priest and a member of the religious congregation of the Claretians. Innocencio of Mary Immaculate, whose birth name was Francisco Tomás Serer, entered the Claretian novitiate in Vic, Spain, in 1904, and was ordained a priest in 1913. He was a teacher of philosophy and theology and held several leadership positions in the congregation.

Innocencio of Mary Immaculate had a deep commitment to social justice and was a strong advocate for the rights of workers. He founded the Spanish section of the International Catholic Union of Social Studies and was actively involved in labor unions. He was also a prolific writer, publishing several books on social and spiritual issues.

In 1934, Innocencio of Mary Immaculate was arrested along with other Claretian priests during the Spanish Civil War. He was executed by firing squad on October 9, 1934, in Turón, Asturias, Spain. He was beatified by the Catholic Church in 2017 as one of the Martyrs of Turón.

Luis de Requesens y Zúñiga

Luis de Requesens y Zúñiga (August 25, 1528 Barcelona-March 5, 1576 Brussels) otherwise known as Luis de Zuniga y Requesens was a Spanish personality.

He served as the governor of the Netherlands from 1573 until his death in 1576. During his tenure, he attempted to maintain peace between the Dutch Protestants and the Spanish Crown, but his efforts were ultimately unsuccessful. Requesens was also involved in the Spanish conquest of Tunisia in 1574, leading a fleet of galleys in the Battle of Tunis. He was known for his intelligence and his ability to negotiate, and was widely respected both in Spain and in the Netherlands. After his death, Requesens was buried in the Church of San Pedro in Mechelen, Belgium.
