Leander began her career as a singer in Sweden in the late 1920s but achieved international fame in the 1930s in Germany, where she starred in several movies and recorded numerous popular songs. She was a favorite singer of Adolf Hitler and Joseph Goebbels, and her career suffered in the aftermath of World War II due to her association with Nazi Germany.
