Louis Mercanton

Louis Mercanton (April 5, 1879 Nyon-April 29, 1932 Paris) also known as Louis Samuel Eugène Mercanton was a Swiss film director, actor and screenwriter. He had two children, Jacques Mercanton and Jean Mercanton.

He died caused by myocardial infarction.

Louis Mercanton's career in film began in the early 1900s when he worked as an actor in a traveling theater troupe. His first major success in film came with the silent film "Le Locataire diabolique" (The Diabolical Tenant) in 1913. He went on to direct and act in several films throughout the 1910s and 1920s, including "The Idiot" (1920) and "The Struggle for the Matterhorn" (1928).

In addition to his work in film, Mercanton was also a talented painter and musician. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and later became an accomplished pianist and composer.

Mercanton was known for his collaboration with French actress and director Renée Delacroix, with whom he worked on several films. The two became romantically involved, and they eventually had two children together.

Unfortunately, Mercanton's life and career were cut short when he died suddenly from a heart attack at the age of 53. Despite his relatively short career, Mercanton is remembered as an important figure in the early decades of cinema, both in his native Switzerland and in France.
