Emil Gyr

Emil Gyr (July 8, 1879 Zürich-August 22, 1951 Zollikon) was a Swiss actor.

He was born into a family of actors and initially studied architecture before following in his family's footsteps and pursuing a career in acting. Gyr began his acting career in 1900 and went on to perform in over 200 productions. He was known for his work as an actor in German-language theaters and also made numerous appearances in German silent films. Gyr's most notable stage performance was in the title role of the 1926 production of "William Tell" at the Basel Theater. In addition to his acting career, Gyr was also a writer and published several plays and essays throughout his lifetime. He was considered one of Switzerland's most prominent stage actors of the early 20th century.
