Shannon Tavarez (January 20, 1999 Queens-November 1, 2010 New Hyde Park) was an American actor.

Shannon Tavarez was born in Queens, New York City in 1999. She found her passion for acting at a young age and began performing in school plays. She was cast in the role of Nala in the Broadway production of The Lion King when she was just 11 years old.

During her time in the show, Tavarez was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Despite undergoing chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant with an umbilical cord donation, Tavarez's condition worsened and she passed away at the age of 11 in November 2010.

Tavarez's story brought attention to the need for more bone marrow donors, especially for African American patients, who have a lower chance of finding a donor match. Her legacy lives on through the work of the nonprofit organization Be The Match, which helps connect potential donors with those in need of bone marrow transplants.
