He is best known for being a member of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, playing bass guitar for them from 1982 until his death in 2003. He struggled with drug addiction for many years and it was ultimately a drug overdose that led to his untimely death at the age of 47. Despite his struggles, Epstein is remembered as being a highly talented and sought-after musician in the industry.
