Akim Tamiroff

Akim Tamiroff (October 29, 1899 Tbilisi-September 17, 1972 Palm Springs) also known as Akin Tamiroff, Akim Tamirof, Akim Mikhailovich Tamiroff, Аким Михайлович Тамиров, Հովակիմ or Hovakim was an Armenian actor.

Tamiroff began his acting career in Russia, performing at the Moscow Art Theatre. He immigrated to the United States in the 1920s and made his Hollywood debut in the film "The General Died at Dawn" (1936). Tamiroff worked with some of the biggest names in the film industry, including Orson Welles and Alfred Hitchcock, and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in "For Whom the Bell Tolls" (1943). Over the course of his career, he appeared in over 100 films and was known for his versatility as an actor, playing both dramatic and comedic roles. Outside of acting, Tamiroff was a talented artist and painter.
