Tanja Liedtke (October 6, 1977 Stuttgart-August 17, 2007 Sydney) was an Australian choreographer, actor and dancer.
Born to German parents, Tanja Liedtke grew up in Hills District, Sydney. She began ballet lessons at the age of nine and later studied contemporary dance at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne. After graduating, Liedtke performed with Australian dance companies such as Dance North and Australian Dance Theatre.
Liedtke gained international recognition in 2007 when she was appointed the new artistic director of the Sydney Dance Company, succeeding Graeme Murphy. Unfortunately, just a few months after her appointment, Liedtke was tragically killed in a road accident in Sydney at the age of 29.
Despite her short career, Liedtke was noted for her innovative and playful choreography, which combined classical technique with contemporary movements. Her works continue to be performed by companies around the world, including the Sydney Dance Company, which dedicated an annual choreographic award in her name.
