Samy Szlingerbaum (April 4, 2015-April 4, 1986) was a Belgian film director, screenwriter, actor, cinematographer and film editor.
Born in Antwerp, Belgium to Polish Jewish parents, Szlingerbaum started his career in the film industry in the 1930s. He directed his first feature film "Misère au Borinage" in 1933, which was a powerful documentary about the mining community in Borinage. He went on to direct several more documentaries and feature films, including "Soigne ta droite" in 1987, which was a satirical comedy.
Szlingerbaum was also an actor and appeared in a number of films including "La Grande Illusion" in 1937, which was directed by Jean Renoir. During World War II, Szlingerbaum was taken to the Auschwitz concentration camp, where he tragically died in 1942 at the young age of 27. However, his legacy in the film industry continues to be celebrated to this day, as one of the most influential directors of his time.
