She began her career as a radio singer in São Paulo in the 1940s and later moved to Rio de Janeiro to pursue a career in acting. She appeared in numerous films, including "O Grande Momento" (1958) and "Os Cafajestes" (1962), and also had success as a singer, releasing several albums throughout the 1950s and 1960s. Bittencourt was known for her soulful voice and her interpretations of Brazilian samba and bossa nova. She was a prominent figure in the Brazilian music scene during her career and is considered a major influence on contemporary Brazilian music.
