Jean-Francois Dagenais

Jean-Francois Dagenais (October 16, 1975 Montreal-) also known as Dagenais, Jean-Francois is a Canadian guitarist, record producer and audio engineer.

He is best known as the guitarist and founding member of the Canadian death metal band Kataklysm. Dagenais has produced and engineered albums for many metal bands, including Misery Index, Malevolent Creation, and Ex Deo. He has also worked as a producer and engineer for non-metal artists, such as the Quebecoise singer Annie Villeneuve. In addition to his work in the music industry, Dagenais is a martial arts enthusiast and has black belts in both Karate and Taekwondo.

He started playing guitar at the age of 12 and was heavily influenced by classic rock and heavy metal bands like Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, and Metallica. In 1991, at the age of 16, he formed Kataklysm with vocalist Maurizio Iacono. Since then, the band has released 14 studio albums and is considered a highly influential force within the death metal genre.

Dagenais has been nominated for multiple awards from the Quebec music industry for his work as a producer and engineer. He also owns his own recording studio, JFD Studio, which is located in Montreal.

Aside from his black belts in Karate and Taekwondo, Dagenais is also skilled in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts. He has even competed in MMA matches, including one at the amateur level. In addition, he is a certified personal trainer and has worked as a fitness instructor.
