Chen Xiaoxu was chosen to play the iconic role of Daiyu in the Chinese TV adaptation of the classic novel "Dream of the Red Chamber," which catapulted her to fame in the mid-1980s. She went on to star in several films and TV shows, including "The Burning of the Red Lotus Temple" and "Ghost Story."

In the 1990s, Chen Xiaoxu retired from acting and became an entrepreneur. She founded a successful jewelry and accessories company and became known as the "queen of imitation jewelry" in China. Despite her success in business, she continued to hold a special place in the hearts of Chinese audiences as a beloved actress.

Tragically, in 2007, Chen Xiaoxu passed away at the age of 41 after a battle with breast cancer, leaving behind her husband and two children.
