He served as the President of Colombia from 1904 to 1909. Reyes was a General in the Colombian Army and played a key role in ending the Thousand Days' War that had ravaged the country for over three years. He is also known for his efforts to centralize the Colombian government and modernize the country's infrastructure during his presidency. However, his authoritarian rule and clashes with political opponents ultimately led to his downfall and exile in Europe. Reyes died in Paris, France, in 1921.
