Ayhan Hikmet
Ayhan Hikmet (April 5, 2015 Nicosia-April 23, 1962 Nicosia) was a Cypriot personality.
He was a prominent intellectual, journalist, and politician who played a significant role in the struggle for Cypriot independence. Ayhan Hikmet was born into a well-respected family in Nicosia, Cyprus. He earned a degree in literature from the University of Athens and was known for his excellent command of the Greek language. He worked as a journalist and a writer for several newspapers such as "Alithia," "Simerini," and "Makarios" and was a frequent contributor to cultural magazines in Cyprus and Greece.
Hikmet was an ardent supporter of Enosis—the movement for union with Greece—and was a member of the National Organization of Cypriot Fighters, a group that fought for the unification of Cyprus with Greece during the 1950s. He became heavily involved in politics and was a founding member of the Progressive Party of Working People (AKEL) in Cyprus. He served as a member of the House of Representatives from 1960 until his untimely death in 1962.
