She graduated from the Royal Danish Theatre's acting school in 1956 and started her career on stage, performing in numerous productions over the years. She also appeared in several films and TV series, including "Matador," one of the most popular TV shows in Danish history.

Walther was highly regarded for her versatility as an actor and her ability to portray complex characters with nuance and depth. She won several awards throughout her career, including the Bodil Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film "Cocktail Party" (1963).

In addition to her work as an actor, Walther was also a director, and in 1981 she directed an adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's play "Rosmersholm" for the Royal Danish Theatre.
