He was the younger brother of Dutch writer and literary critic Gerard Reve, with whom he often collaborated. Van het Reve was a professor of Slavic languages and literature at the University of Amsterdam for many years, and his academic work focused on Russian literature, particularly the works of Leo Tolstoy. Lex Goudsmit (March 15, 1913 Brussels-December 10, 1999 Amsterdam) a.k.a. Alexandre Joseph Goudsmit or Alexandre Joseph (Lex) Goudsmit was a Dutch actor.
He was best known for his work in the Dutch theater and for his numerous appearances in Dutch films, television shows, and radio productions. Goudsmit began his career as a cabaret artist in Amsterdam and went on to become a renowned character actor. He was also a gifted singer and performed in several stage musicals in the Netherlands. During World War II, Goudsmit and his family went into hiding to avoid persecution by the Nazis. After the war, he returned to his acting career and continued to work well into his 80s. In 1994, Goudsmit was awarded the Order of the Netherlands Lion in recognition of his contributions to Dutch culture.
