He is also known for his work as an illustrator and cartoonist. Swarte is considered to be one of the key figures in the Dutch comic book scene, and his distinctive style has been highly influential. In addition to his work in comics, Swarte has designed numerous book covers, posters, and other forms of graphic art. He is also a co-founder of the comics magazine "RAW" and has been involved in other important comics projects throughout his career. In 2012, Swarte received the Marten Toonder Award for his contributions to Dutch comics.
