Jorge Icaza Coronel (June 10, 1906 Quito-May 26, 1978 Quito) a.k.a. Jorge Icaza was an Ecuadorean writer.

He is best known for his groundbreaking novel "Huasipungo" (1934), which portrays the exploitative conditions of indigenous people in Ecuador. The novel was widely translated and received international acclaim for its powerful social critique. Icaza was a member of the "Indigenous Union", a leftist political group that advocated for indigenous rights and fought against economic oppression. He wrote several other novels and short stories throughout his career, including "El Chulla Romero y Flores" (1958) and "The Villager" (1940). In addition to his literary work, Icaza was also a prominent journalist and activist, and took part in the Ecuadorean Revolution of 1944.
