Ahmed Fouad Negm

Ahmed Fouad Negm (May 22, 1929 Al Sharqia Governorate-December 3, 2013 Cairo) a.k.a. el-Fagommi was an Egyptian poet. He had three children, Afaf Negm, Nawara Negm and Zayneb Negm.

Negm was known for his sharp criticism of politics and social issues in his poetry. He used traditional Egyptian language and slang, making his work approachable and relatable for the average Egyptian. Negm's poetry was especially popular during the 1960s and 1970s, a time of cultural and political change in Egypt. He was also an activist and was imprisoned multiple times, including during the Anwar Sadat and Hosni Mubarak regimes. Negm worked closely with Egyptian musician Sheikh Imam, and their collaborations became known as "The People's Troupe." His work continues to be celebrated in Egypt and beyond as a voice of the people and a symbol of resistance.
