Robert Emmett (September 28, 1921 Monterey-April 8, 2000 New York City) also known as Robert McMenamin was an American screenwriter and actor. He had two children, Sean Emmett and Kathryn Emmet.
Robert Emmett started his career as a theater actor and worked with the Group Theater in New York during the 1940s. He then moved to Hollywood, where he worked as a screenwriter for films such as Panic in the Streets (1950) and The Mob (1951). In the late 1950s, he returned to Broadway as a playwright and wrote the play Bonjour, Julie, which premiered in 1961.
Apart from writing and acting, Robert Emmett was also a professor at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, where he taught screenwriting. His students included famous names such as Oliver Stone and Spike Lee.
In addition to his work in the entertainment industry, Robert Emmett was also involved in political activism. He was a member of the Communist Party in the 1940s and later became involved in the civil rights movement.
