She is best known for her work in Bengali cinema and television. Sumitra Mukherjee started her career as a child artist in the film "Maa" (1958). She went on to act in more than 100 Bengali films, including "Sansar Simante" (1975), "Agnishwar" (1975), "Palatak" (1975), "Shankhabela" (1981), and "Pratikar" (1987).
