Karen Carpenter (March 2, 1950 New Haven-February 4, 1983 Downey) also known as Karen Anne Carpenter, K.C., Die Carpenter or The Carpenters was an American singer, drummer, actor and musician.

Karen Carpenter was born in New Haven, Connecticut, but her family moved to Downey, California when she was a child. She and her brother Richard formed the popular pop duo The Carpenters in the 1960s, and quickly became known for Karen's smooth, warm vocals and Richard's impeccable arrangements. They went on to release numerous hit singles and albums throughout the 1970s, including "Close to You," "We've Only Just Begun," and "Rainy Days and Mondays."
