Ron Grainer

Ron Grainer (August 11, 1922 Atherton-February 21, 1981 Cuckfield) also known as Ron Grainer Orchestra, Grainer, Ron, Ron Grainer Quartet, Ronald Erle Grainer, Ron Grainger, Ron Gainer or Ronald Erle "Ron" Grainer was an Australian film score composer and composer. His children are Damian Grainer and Rel Grainer.

Grainer was best known for his work in television, having composed the iconic theme tunes for many popular British TV shows such as Doctor Who, Steptoe and Son, The Prisoner, and Man in a Suitcase. He began his career as a classical pianist before moving into composing for films and television in the 1950s. In addition to his work in the UK, he also composed music for television shows in his native Australia and in the United States. Grainer was nominated for two BAFTA Awards and won the Ivor Novello Award in 1967 for his theme tune to The Prisoner. He died of pancreatic cancer in 1981 at the age of 58.
